It is 9:43 at night. I am very sleepy but I just fixed me a big glass of caffeine, a bowl of cereal and a bowl of fruit cocktail. I am just now eating my supper. My friend Megan, begged to bring me supper to church tonight but I insisted that she not. I went to church with very low expectations for the evening. For one, I am so sleepy and I can’t believe I am still alive at this point. I think over the past week and a half I have had maybe 15 hours asleep…NO LIE! I go to bed every single night between 3-4. But anyways…Richard’s lesson pierced the heart of many tonight at church! Its was about the story in Joshua (Achan) sin in the camp…and how many people were affected by his sin including his very own family! burned, stoned and killed because of his sin! (very graphic picture painted in my head) I thought how selfish, and how stupid! But think about in today’s society. Drug abuse, verbal abuse, domestic violence, physical abuse, molestation, pride, thieves, liar, porn, sexuality, fake worship…..all of that affects those around you! Its usually the people closest to you, you hurt the most. Now drug addicts don’t set out to tear their families apart, or break the hearts of their parents, or even think “hmm I may be homeless, and broke if I allow myself to become addicted” We never think ahead of what is to come when we are tempted by satan with sin. I read this quote today “If we don’t want to be led into temptation,we’d better check to see who is leading” Who is leading my life? We often get caught up in how we can benefit right then…(friendships, relationships, trying to forget your past, numb our pain and hide our emotions) When we allow ourselves to get lost in the temptation then we usually end up on our faces before God begging for restoration! I have had many many talks with teenage girls about losing their virginity, or trying alcohol or drugs for the first time, its never about being prideful, jealous, or disobedient. (us adults take care of that) When we are truly real with who we are way down in the depths of our soul the junk we try and hide is always exposed, and its not because God is wanting to hurt us, but He is wanting to restore us and gently bring us back to Him. I can’t imagine how the lost son must have felt when he saw his father in a distance. He ran to him scooped him up and said nothing of his past, but only celebrated his return. When we are sick of the constant guilt, lies, frustrations and we finally surrender and say “I give up”, God runs to us scoops us up and says nothing of our past, and restores us completely! Thats freedom! True Freedom! Well I have got to get some much needed work finished before bed! I hope one person reads this and realizes the freedom in repentence…let Him RUN TO YOU:) Holly<><
a prayer for today…
“Dear God, I want to follow You, but sometimes I find myself distracted by the things this world offers. Please help me to RENEW my FOCUS on YOU!”
Joshua 7:24-2524 Then Joshua and all the Israelites took Achan, the silver, the robe, the bar of gold, his sons, daughters, cattle, donkeys, sheep, goats, tent, and everything he had, and they brought them to the valley of Achor. 25 Then Joshua said to Achan, “Why have you brought trouble on us? The Lord will now bring trouble on you.” And all the Israelites stoned Achan and his family and burned their bodies.
17“When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired men have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! 18I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. 19I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired men.’ 20So he got up and went to his father.
“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. 21“The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.[b]’ 22“But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. 24For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate. 25“Meanwhile, the older son was in the field. When he came near the house, he heard music and dancing. 26So he called one of the servants and asked him what was going on. 27‘Your brother has come,’ he replied, ‘and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.’
